Dear Professor McCharthy,
I have the following problem:
History: two years ago I applied to the CS department. My purpose
was at that time to take some classes and to do some research in
theorem proving. The University (office of graduate admission)
wrote me I will be a nonmatric here. But after I arrived (fall 74)
I found out that the CS department had me admitted to the masterprogram.
I choose to drop out from the masterprogram according my plannes.
But one year later, last May,I decided to try to do my Ph.D here.

Because of the very special circumstances I ask you if the following
is all right for my Ph.D application:
Abbreviation: [x] means x is already in the CS department.
Both, the office of graduate admission and the CS secretary
told me that it is enough just to renew my application:
(0) 1 application form for reactivation.
(1) [In addition of my personal references from Munich one and a half
year ago] 1 personal reference from here.
(2) statement of purpose
(3) examples of my work here and in Munich.
(4) [In addition to my courses and grades from Munich] the results of
the Comprehensive Examination I will take in January 76 here.
(5) [the graduate record examination I took 2 years ago.]

Further question: (1)Do I need the special yellow CS form too?
                  (2) have I to supply grades from classes I
took last year as a nonmatric ?

Joachim

I assume that your remark about vonSchweinitz and Widdoes was local to
a particular time. The top five on year-to-date basis are Moorer,
L. Smith, Moravec, Maas, and Samet. For 1 October-to-date the leaders
are Suzuki, Cartwright, Weyhrauch, Gafford, and Tovar.

Indeed, Chowning authorized vonSchweinitz. I have followed no consistent
procedure in annotating the file.

What monitoring function did you have in mind for the committee? Or is
it really a policy-making function?

Joan Baily from CSD called and asked me to remind you to turn in Annual Faculty
Report Forms asap. They were due about 5 days ago. Thank you.
